CLAYGROUND COLLECTIVE

8: Clay Chronicles by Clayground Collective, 2024

When my daughter was a baby, the first place that came to mind for where to take her on our days out was the Robert Street Library. When I first came to London I was still learning English and thanks to the library I was able to take part in my first English language course which helped and encouraged me so much.

A ceramic bookshelf made with and by residents from the Bengali Workers’ Association, Esther Randall Court, Community Champions, and at Regent’s Roots Festival. Participants were guided in hand modelling and a variety of ‘surface relief’ techniques to create a bold and colourful artwork that reflects the vibrancy and diversity of the local community and references the much-loved and missed Library which was previously situated here.
