NEIGHBOURHOOD MAKESHOP

WHAT IS THE NEIGHBOURHOOD MAKESHOP?

Neighbourhood Makeshop is a new flexible space for hands-on community and artistic making. It’s a ‘messy creative space’ in complement to ODAC’s main premises, imagined as a practical extension to ODAC’s new Neighbourhood Studio for community meetings and projects.

Located in the Annex of the old Maria Fidelis School, Neighbourhood Makeshop is a brightly-lit and unique space, only three-minutes walk from the main ODAC building. This space is ideal for larger craft projects such as set-building; painting; art classes; and community groups that require a self-contained space, with its own all-gender toilets and wheelchair accessibility.

THE TOOL LIBRARY

Responding to needs Champions and interests identified by residents – particularly those from Community Regent’s Park group - a core programme of the Makeshop is a Tool Library – a basic workshop facility / maker-space for creative DIY, upcycling, repair projects.

At this time, it is conceived as a Tool Library for use in the Makeshop space, not a ‘lending library’ to take the tools away – though this may be possible as the project progresses.

The Tool Library project is funded by a Euston Meanwhile Use Fund grant.

JOB OPPORTUNITY

We are hiring a Artist/Maker Tool Library Facilitator (Freelance) for the Neighbourhood Makeshop. It is a direct community-facing role, leading the Tool Library project and facilitating sessions teaching people how to use tools and make their projects, supporting the ideas and ambitions of residents.

The role is a flexible freelance role - a total fee of £5000 is available for a year’s regular Tool Library activity. This fee is estimated at £75 per 2.5 hour session (£30 per hour), to be delivered approx twice weekly.
