REMIX DANCE
Remix Dance is a community dance project, delivering free weekly Street Dance classes - and performance opportunities - to children and young people of 5-16 years from the Regent’s Park Estate and the local area.
Enrolment for this term has now finished, but if you have any questions or are interested in how to get involved, email ODAC’s Local Participation Manager, Mariam Hassan, on mariam@olddiorama.com
ABOUT
Remix Dance has worked with over 500 local children, young people and families from 25 different cultural backgrounds, many of whom do not otherwise socialise together outside of the school environment. It produces multiple dance productions throughout the year, as well as providing opportunities to perform at local events, theatre shows, and festivals in a range of indoor and outdoor venues.
Co-founded by Mariam Hassan and Mia Stott-Cohen, the dance project has been running in the Regent’s Park Estate for the last 15 years, most recently based at Old Diorama Arts Centre. With the appointment of Mariam Hassan as Local Participation Manager, Remix Dance has become an in-house project at ODAC, supporting its expansion and providing more arts-led opportunities for children and young people.
In 2023, we welcomed ‘Boogie’ (original founding member of Flawless Dance) to join the team as our Street Dance teacher. Boogie teaches six classes per week, including a very popular boy’s dance group for 10-12 year-olds, who have already performed at the prestigious ‘Camden Dance Festival” at The Place in February.
Former Remix Dance members Niva Pradhan and Maryam Bolaji were appointed last year as Participation Assistants - supporting Boogie and the children in creating a safe space and a fun dance session for all.
As well as benefits to the children’s health and well-being, Remix Dance is much more than a dance project - it enables community cohesion, bringing together local families in a positive and inspiring environment.
Remix Dance is an ODAC project currently made possible thanks to financial support from Camden Council Regent's Park Ward Local CIL Fund, John Lyon’s Charity, and supported by Camden Council Culture Service with funding from the Cultural Education and Learning Support Fund.
