One Festival of Homeless Arts Gallery

We wanted to share the fantastic photos Matt Mahmood-Ogston took of the One Festival of Homeless Arts, and of the One Fest Exhibition launch. If you’d like to see the artwork in real life, visit us and take a look at our transformed foyer where the artwork will be on display until mid March.

Creation

One Fest took place during an incredibly cold period in January, and across the entire top floor of ODAC.  The programme featured workshops exploring a wide range of disciplines; including wire sculpting, screenwriting, graffiti art, and mask making; as well as food, drink, and a safe creative space for over 200 artists and visitors throughout the festival.

Rebuild

One session - with us for the whole first week - was ‘Rebuild’: a series of creative crafting workshops, exploring the meaning of home, homelessness, motherhood, and the notion of rebuilding lives. The Rebuild team opened up their space for women with experience of homelessness to design and create intricate doll’s houses, which will form part of the set for ‘Mother’s Day’ - a play exploring the themes discussed in the Rebuild sessions, which will be performed at Camden People’s Theatre on 23rd and 24th April.  For now, the doll’s houses can be found on display as part of the One Fest Exhibition.

Exhibition

We hope that this year’s One Fest has helped to identify Old Diorama Arts Centre as a place that is safe, welcoming, and open to all during these challenging times.  Come to ODAC any time during our opening hours to enjoy and celebrate this beautiful and unique exhibition, and help to support more work like this going forward.

We had a chat to Lainie (One Fest’s host and co-curator) to hear her reflections and takeaways from the two weeks… read that here!
