WE’RE RECRUITING: ARTIST/MAKER TOOL LIBRARY FACILITATOR (FREELANCE)

WHAT IS THE NEIGHBOURHOOD MAKESHOP?

The deadline for this role has now passed. More information about the Makeshop, and the programmes there.

Neighbourhood Makeshop is a new flexible space for hands-on community and artistic making, managed by ODAC in partnership with Camden People’s Theatre, supported by Community Champions Regent’s Park and Hopscotch.

Neighbourhood Makeshop is sited in the Annex of the former Maria Fidelis School, off Starcross Yard Temporary Open Space, Starcross Street, Euston.

It’s a ‘messy creative space’ in complement to both of ODAC and CPT’s main premises, and imagined as a practical extension to ODAC’s new Neighbourhood Studio for community meetings and projects.

Responding to needs and interests identified by residents – particularly those from Community Regent’s Park group - a core programme of the Makeshop is a Tool Library – a basic workshop facility / maker-space for creative DIY, upcycling, repair projects.

The space is made possible thanks to The Euston Partnership, Mace Dragados Joint Venture, and Camden Council.

WHAT IS THE ROLE?

This is a direct community-facing role, leading the Tool Library project and facilitating sessions teaching people how to use tools and make their projects, supporting the ideas and ambitions of residents. The role will be hands-on with creative input into the direction of the project, collaborating with residents.

We have basic funding confirmed for 1 year’s activity in the space, but there is room to work with ODAC to explore the expansion of the project and its longer-term future.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

The ideal candidate is someone with the skills, passion, temperament and commitment to make this project a success. We need someone who has proven experience using and/or teaching a range of tools and DIY skills; who understands the needs of community work; and has the imagination of an artist. They need to enjoy getting messy, getting things done, and facilitating ideas into reality – and ideally have an understanding of the needs of diverse communities like those in the Regent’s Park ward.
